Brother Testimonials

Colin Gerner - President
Sophomore, Accounting & Business Admin: ITM Major

Colin Why Delta Sigma Pi?  Delta Sigma Pi is an experience like none other, helping you become a confident young leader, who has the ability to take on challenges greater than yourself.  DSP also helps you grow professionally, and prepares you to work in some of the largest business firms in the country.  In just over a year in the fraternity, I have already been able to develop these skills. As a freshman at Albany, I was overwhelmed at first because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, nor how to do it.  I pledged for Delta Sigma Pi as a freshman because I wanted a chance to meet individuals who had the same vision and aspiration for success as I did, but who also wanted to have a great time.  Little did I know this would be the start of something extraordinary.  My resume quickly improved, my interview skills were sharpened, my public speaking soared, and I became extremely involved in the community. But all of these things took second place to the friendships that I made.  Soon, I was among a group of 40 people that were more than just my ‘brothers.’  They became my family.  This is the greatest answer, for me, when asking yourself, “Why Delta Sigma Pi?”  Will you set yourself up for tremendous success in the world?  Without a doubt.  More importantly though, you will be able to do this with some of the most wonderful people you have ever met...creating relationships that will last a lifetime

Desiree
Delta Sigma Pi was by far one of the best things I got involved in here at SUNY.  At a school as large as ours is, its hard to find that group of people that you really connect with.  I wanted to surround myself with people who shared the same goals as I did: excel in schoolwork, set myself up for an amazing future, and have tons of fun while doing it...we are college students, right?  I pledged DSP my second semester sophomore year, and it was the best decision I ever made.  Not only did I gain 40 new friends who are amazing students in the business school, I was able to grow so much as an individual.  Delta Sigma Pi will provide you with the tools for success, and helps you become a stand out among the millions of other students looking for jobs after college.  These are supposed to be the best four years of your life, and its easy to let them fly by without making a difference for yourself.  You don't want to look back and think you missed out.  I know for sure that I didn't.
Get involvedDO something great. BECOME something great. RUSH DSP.

Ron Benson
Senior, Financial Market Regulation Major
Ron They say in business, “it’s not what you know, rather who you know” and through Delta Sigma Pi you will network with professionals from all areas of the business world.  Delta Sigma Pi is truly a life changing experience. I pledged my first semester Sophomore year and it was the most rewarding thing I have done while at UAlbany.  The people I have met, the life changes I have made, the career path I have now chosen, all can be directly linked to Delta Sigma Pi.  The friendships I have made will extend far beyond my college years and I look forward to seeing future pledges grow professionally into successful brothers.  If you have the smallest ounce of interest in changing your life and becoming a young business professional, make sure you come and check us out.  I look forward to meeting you!

Trevor Wilson
Junior, Business Admin: Marketing & Management Major
Trevor Delta Sigma Pi is easily the best thing that has happened to me in my time at SUNY Albany. I never considered myself to be a "frat" person, but that's exactly what makes Delta Sigma Pi a unique experience; I've made friends that I'll have forever while also learning more about the world of business and what it means to be a professional then I could have ever learned in a classroom. The social andprofessional connections that I've made in my time as a brother of Delta Sigma Pi would have easily evaded me otherwise. If you're a young professional looking to improve yourself and become a part of this family, then do yourself a favor and come see what we're all about.

Kara Gagliardo
Senior, Accounting & Business Admin
KaraG I transferred into UAlbany fall semester of my junior year.  The best decision I made was pledging DSP.  Not only was I immersed into UAlbany life, but I automatically had friends that were like me—AND in all of my classes.  Adjusting became 10X easier with friends, classmates, and faculty connections in the business school.  My advice is SET YOURSELF APART.  Everyone is going to college these days, but is everyone in DSP? No.  And there’s a reason we are so selective… we take the best of the best to make them better.  I can confidently say every interview I had this semester, I was called back.  My future is my decision and not a matter of a paycheck.  The benefits of being a brother of Delta Sigma Pi will last more than your four years here at UAlbany. Make a difference for your future, RUSH DSP!

Daren Pon - Alumni

University at Albany
Pledged Fall 2007, Graduated May 2010
DarenPon Delta Sigma Pi is a fantastic way for anyone to separate from the rest of the pack, especially in an increasingly challenging and competitive economic environment. The Zeta Psi Chapter represents over forty years of excellence and has truly established itself as a known brand amongst students, faculty, staff, and alumni. We aim to recruit only the best; we seek out individuals with great, diverse measures of potential and always a strong penchant for leadership. I pledged my first semester sophomore year. If I were to change anything, I would go back and pledge sooner. I learned more than I ever did in a classroom and developed friendships that will last a lifetime. Delta Sigma Pi gave me all of the tools to help me land a job before graduation and then to hit the ground running. Without the support and advice from Brothers of the Zeta Psi Chapter, I would be in a much different situation today. Joining was easily the best decision I ever made in college.

Kimberly Sumcizk - Alumni
Assistant Buyer at Bloomingdale's Pledged Fall 2009, Graduated May 2011
Kim Delta Sigma Pi starts with opening up to people you barely even know. Little by little, you’ll start building friendships, and before you know it you’ll be growing an eternal bond as brothers.   Delta Sigma Pi allowed me to learn and interact with some of the brightest and most driven people of my generation. I am forever grateful for the opportunity the fraternity gave me to make a difference in my community, expand upon my leadership abilities, and maximize my potential as women in the business world. Not only did I receive support for my future career, I developed lifelong friendships with my fellow brothers, friendships that continue to thrive today. Membership in Delta Sigma Pi has been the most rewarding experience in my collegiate career and I would recommend it to any student at the University at Albany.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who do we look for in candidates that want to join Delta Sigma Pi?
A: We look for people who will help us maintain an image of professionalism, as well as further the progress of the fraternity. Delta Sigma Pi has a lot to offer, and as with any activity, what you get out of it is what you put into it.

Q: Why should I join a business fraternity?
A: Business fraternities offer a unique opportunity for you to challenge and improve yourself. No other type of business organization provides a strong development program, an extensive alumni network, or a sense of brotherhood only gained through the pledging experience that a business fraternity provides. Not only is Delta Sigma Pi a professional organization, but it is a social network, as well.  We hold semi-annual formals, travel together, go on camping trips to Dippikill, and participate in intramural sports such as dodgeball, volleyball and softball.

Q: What is the time commitment for pledging? What is the program like?
A: The pledge program lasts for roughly eight weeks. It is designed to build brotherhood and professionalism and prepare each pledge to become a brother in the fraternity. Pledging Delta Sigma Pi is an experience that will challenge you, as well as shape you into a professional and accomplished individual.  Public speaking, interviewing skills, time management skills, networking and teamwork are some of the things we instill in you to prepare for the business world.  The skills and knowledge you will gain during the pledging process will give you the confidence and determination to be come successful in whatever field of business you choose.  The value of your experience with DSP equals the amount of time you are willing to commit.

Q: How many pledges does Deltasig take each semester?
A: There is no fixed number of candidates we take each semester. The size of the pledge class depends on the quality of the applicant pool. Pledge classes have ranged from eight to twenty pledges in past semesters.

Q: I’ve applied in previous semesters, but didn’t receive a bid. Should I reapply?
A: Absolutely! We look at re-applications as a sign of dedication, persistence, and commitment. Be sure to illustrate how you’ve developed since last applying and what you’ve done to get closer to accomplishing your goals.

Q: What criteria are used when deciding whom is given a bid?
A: Deltasig weighs candidates’ GPA and coursework along with their application, essay, and performance in interviews. We are interested to see that candidates have maintained top performance in their academics while taking the initiative to pursue their goals and interests outside of school, business-related or not.

Q: What can I expect at the rush events?
A: The rush events are a time for brothers to meet candidates and see what they are like off paper and away from the interview room. We’re interested in finding out who you are, what motivates you, and what you’re passionate about. Also it’s the time to test out Delta Sigma Pi, to see if the it’s the right fit for you. Ask many questions and get to know as many brothers ask you can. Above everything, be yourself!
